Spoken Grammar Errors: Guilty Until Proven Competent.

Some people’s writing is so rife with spelling and homophone errors that I just know they make the same mistakes in their speech, even if there’s no way for me to prove it…

  1. I just felt a tiny explosion in my head. Great post!

  2. I agree, and I don’t think you need to prove it. Mark ’em up.

Never really thought about it before, but I’ll bet you’re absolutely right! Where’s my marker?

  4. The Waiting's avatar The Waiting says:

I have thought the same thing so many times. Both their written and spoken words have no credibility.

  5. Hooray, we missed you! I assume. I mean, I did. I guess I shouldn’t speak for everyone… but I think we all did.

  6. Hi Boggleton, I am sure you have read this:

So that’s why you scribbled red marker all over my face.

Awesome post! It was worth the wait.
I know people whose mistakes can be heard when they THINK.

  9. Unfortunately, these errors seem to spread through writing. I can’t really believe that so many people would make the same spelling mistakes otherwise. Another thing to blame on Zuckerberg.

There, their, they’re. Don’t get so worked up!

Haha, I’m pretty positive you’re right!

  12. :p my blog would be full of red.
i did once mark up one of my brothers test papers in red, called him an idiot and failed him.
he took it to school and the teacher was furious.

Lol! I have friends and family that speak so badly it’s hard to understand them… I feel like doing this to them! And also it amazes me, how many kids can’t spell/write properly and yet they still get through school. I know a guy that can barely spell his name, and he’s a Junior in high school.

I own those earphones and I’m somewhat of a grammar nazi, does that make me a traitor :p ?
    P.S awesome comic as expected

Welcome back! The internet was sadly lacking in grammar-related comics for a while there!

  16. You should update more often!

  17. And to leave a comment related to your comic … I swear I can hear it when there’s an apostrophe missing in spoken “Your !” sentences.

One of the comments above brought this to mind…

I disabled the auto correct on my iPhone after it “corrected” my nephew’s name, Henrik, to Heimlich. As in the maneuver and not my adorably cherubic little man. Besides, it just dumbs a person down. I’d rather rely on the matter between my ears. The more I use it, the better it works!

My junior year of high school, I took a red pen to a schoolmate’s term paper… twenty pages or so of a subject I can’t remember. By the time I was finished, there was more red ink from me than blue from him. I wish I had a copy of it!
